This is a great submission to the jam! Rage games aren't really my thing and you made a really effective one so I didn't go that far. I do like the way you designed the gameplay though. It felt easy to pick up and hard to master. I also think the game is visually appealing. Although I think it'd look even better if the pixel density of the sprites was consistent for a more cohesive look.
I like the graphics and music - good job, I also liked the rain outside the tower.
I didn't go further than the second floor - it was very difficult.
I think that the controls and the way of jumping were not very successful. In Jump King, the controls are simpler and more understandable, even though it is also a rage game.
Maybe you should make one button for jumping (hold to gain strength) and in the air use 2 buttons to control the character (left-right). Now the game is similar to complex golf, which was crossed with a piano - I constantly held one key down so that the magician stood in place, and to jump I had to quickly release the hold button and press the jump button . . .
I did worry I'd not explained the controls well enough, but with the jumping I tried 3 different character controllers and ended up preferring this golf-style one!
I think the control's simplicity fell apart when I added the way to cancel a jump. Basically you gotta press both buttons to be able to jump, releasing jump first cancels the jump, but releasing direction first is required to follow thru with the jump.
its like a pixel-art "Getting Over It" with very cute sprites. i didn't get very far, easily frustrated :3 i think the jump visualizer is a little difficult to read. its hard to know exactly how hard my jump is going to be, and it doesn't contrast greatly with the background so i struggled to know if my angle was correct.
thank you!! It's my first time working with Asesprite & i love the little 16x16 wizard sprite, he's my little guy!
yeah. i forsaw the visualiser being not that readable against the background, i wanted to figure out how to give it an outline but didnt manage to before i had to upload :'(
I think the music is great ! it is just the way it is played I think it can be fixed by making it more subtle in the background, and as a suggestion you can maybe (for the v2) add sound settings x)
Either that or maybe use a softer music for the start which goes full action packed 8 bit style a bit later (as I said, once you are playing, you get used to it, it is mosttly a rough start x)

The lore is so rich xD (seriously I like it !)
And the movement is tricky, but that makes it so interesting !
the music is maaaybe a tad harsh but it fits completely the ambiance and you get quickly used to it
thanks so much! i was giggling to myself as a wrote it aha!
someone else said it blew out their eardrums too so i might reupload with quieter music, whoops!
my music is tolerable but not the best thing ever
